Tableau Desktop on Windows and Mac (official current-version reference, 2026-07); excludes generic OS chords (copy/save/undo) and any mouse-only action that can't be drilled on a keyboard, so drag-to-select, pan, and floating-object nudges aren't here.

The progression

Every deck is graded 1 to 7: level 1 is the reflex core, the top level is where the specialists live. One move from each, so you can see how far it goes.

  1. Level 11 move

Instantly transpose your viz so the dimensions on Rows move to Columns and vice versa

    macControl+Command+WwinCtrl+W

The single most common layout tweak, and dragging pills back and forth by hand is the slow way to do it.

  2. Level 23 moves

Open the Show Me panel to pick a chart type for the fields you've selected

    macCommand+1winCtrl+1

The fastest route from selected fields to a working chart without knowing which shelf they belong on.

…and 2 more at this level

  3. Level 36 moves

Jump to the search box to find a field in the Data pane

    macCommand+FwinCtrl+F

Wide tables have hundreds of fields; typing three letters beats scrolling the pane.

…and 5 more at this level

  4. Level 49 moves

Open the Describe Sheet window to see how the current view is built

    macCommand+EwinCtrl+E

Reads back the full recipe of a view you inherited before you start pulling pills off it.

…and 8 more at this level

  5. Level 511 moves

Toggle between the Dashboard and Layout tabs

    T

Bounces between adding objects and fixing their spacing without reaching for the panel.

…and 10 more at this level

  6. Level 610 moves

Put the selected field on the Text/Label mark

    macOption+Shift+TwinAlt+Shift+T

Labels a chart or fills a text table in one press.

…and 9 more at this level

  7. Level 71 move

Start or stop backward playback of the Pages shelf animation

    Shift+F4

The Shift-partner of forward play, for rewinding a story point on demand.
