Practice Obsidian keyboard shortcuts

Drill all 37 until you don't have to think about them.

a small set of keys for a big vault

Covers Obsidian's default desktop hotkeys on macOS and Windows only; generic OS chords (copy/paste/undo/select-all), pure caret navigation, and typed Markdown auto-format triggers are excluded, and mobile is out of scope. Obsidian ships a deliberately small default set, so common actions like daily note, delete file, bookmark, and sidebar toggles are absent here because they have no factory binding.

The progression

Every deck is graded 1 to 7: level 1 is the reflex core, the top level is where the specialists live. One move from each, so you can see how far it goes.

  1. Level 13 moves

Run any Obsidian command by name without hunting through menus

    macCmd+PwinCtrl+P

Most commands ship with no hotkey at all, so this palette is the one door that reaches every one of them.

…and 2 more at this level

  2. Level 26 moves

Flip the current note between editing and reading view

    macCmd+EwinCtrl+E

You cross between writing and reading a note dozens of times an hour.

…and 5 more at this level

  3. Level 311 moves

Open the interactive graph view of your vault

    macCmd+GwinCtrl+G

Seeing the web of links surfaces clusters and orphans no flat file list will.

…and 10 more at this level

  4. Level 49 moves

Manually flush the current file to disk

    macCmd+SwinCtrl+S

Obsidian autosaves, but the old reflex still forces a write before a sync or a quit.

…and 8 more at this level

  5. Level 55 moves

Delete the whole word to the left of the cursor

    macAlt+BackspacewinCtrl+Backspace

Backspacing a mistyped word letter by letter is slower than taking it whole.

…and 4 more at this level

  6. Level 62 moves

Snap the interface zoom back to its default size

    macCmd+0winCtrl+0

After nudging the scale up and down, one key returns you to a known baseline.

…and 1 more at this level

  7. Level 71 move

Open the Electron developer tools to debug a plugin or theme

    macCmd+Alt+IwinCtrl+Shift+I

Plugin and CSS tinkerers need the console, and this is the same chord Chrome trained them on.
